Quiet please, there's a lady on stage Judy Garland (Frances Ethel Gumm) was born June 10th 1922 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. At the age of two she was performing with her elder sisters as 'The Gumm Sisters' on the stage of her father's movie theatre. Touring the Vaudeville circuit in the 1930's they changed their name to the 'Garland Sisters' and Frances changed her name to Judy (influenced by the Hoagy Carmichael song). At the age of 13 she signed a contract with MGM and was eventually paired with Mickey Rooney in the 1937 feature, 'Thoroughbreds Don't Cry', which was so successful they were cast in 'Love Finds Andy Hardy'.
