from £11.85

| RRP A true twentieth-century trailblazer, HARVEY MILK was an outspoken human rights activist and the first openly gay U.S. politician elected to public office; even after his assassination, in 1978, he continues to inspire disenfranchised people around the world. The Oscar-winning The Times of Harvey Milk, directed by ROBERT EPSTEIN (The Celluloid Closet, Paragraph 175) and produced by RICHARD SCHMIECHEN, was, like its subject, groundbreaking. One of the first feature documentaries to address gay life in America, it's a work of advocacy itself, bringing Milk's message of hope and equality to a wider audience. This exhilarating trove of archival footage and heartfelt interviews is as much a vivid portrait of a time and place (San Francisco's historic Castro District in the seventies) as a testament to the legacy of a political visionary. Special Features: Director-approved digital transfer, from the meticulous UCLA Film and Television Archive restoration, with DTS-HD Master Audio Audio commentary featuring director Robert Epstein, co-editor Deborah Hoffmann, and photographer Daniel Nicoletta New interview with documentary filmmaker and UC Berkeley professor Jon Else New program about The Times of Harvey Milk and Gus Van Sant's Milk, featuring Epstein, Van Sant, actor James Franco, and Milk friends Cleve Jones, Anne Kronenberg, and Nicoletta Postscript containing interview clips not used in the film Rare collection of audio and video recordings of Harvey Milk Interview excerpts from Epstein's research tapes Footage from the film's Castro Theatre premiere and the 1984 Academy Awards ceremony Panel discussion on Supervisor Dan White's controversial trial Excerpts from the twenty-fifth anniversary commemoration of Milk's and Mayor George Moscone's assassinations Original theatrical trailer PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by film critic B. 5 Broken Cameras | DVD | (28/01/2013)
from £9.55
| Saving you £6.44 (67.43%)
| RRP Filmed from the perspective of a Palestinian farm labourer (Emad Burnat), 5 Broken Cameras was shot using six different video cameras – five of which were destroyed in the process of documenting Emad’s family’s life as well as Palestinian and International resistance to Israeli appropriation of land and occupation. Emad, who lives in Bil'in, just west of the city of Ramallah in the West Bank, was thrust into global politics when his community peacefully resisted Israeli plans to erect a wall through their land to separate them from the ever growing Israeli settlements. Initially given the camera to chronicle the birth and childhood of his son Gibreel, the film captures Gibreel growing into a precocious preschooler against the backdrop of the many non-violent protests that have become an intrinsic part of life in Bil'in. With hundreds of hours of video footage covering a period of over six years, Emad started working with Israeli activist and filmmaker Guy Davidi to produce a film. Guy helped shape the material and compose a commentary for the film. Together, they have turned 5 Broken Cameras into a larger-than-life lyrical device that both informs and structures their personal and collective struggles in the West Bank. An extraordinary work of both cinematic and political activism, 5 Broken Cameras daringly meshes personal essay with political cinema, displaying how images and cameras can change lives and realities.
