The first Challenge Cup Final to be played indoors was packed full of incident and drama. With the roof of the Millennium Stadium closed, the supporters generated an incredible atmosphere as two of rugby league’s greatest rivals took to the field in ideal conditions. They matched each other in the scoring stakes until Paul Deacon’s penalty gave the Bulls an eight point lead and breathing space. David Furner’s converted try brought the Rhinos back to within two, but the outcome of the match ultimately rested on the decision by captain, Kevin Sinfield, to spurn a kickable... penalty with seven minutes left and go for the match winning try. Bradford’s defence stood firm and for the second time in four years they held out to defeat their near neighbours in the Final.
