Coming-of-age comedy drama directed by Rob Meyer and starring Kodi Smit-McPhee and Ben Kingsley. Having lost his mother recently to terminal illness, David Portnoy (Smit-McPhee)'s relationship with his father (James Le Gros) has been difficult; especially now his father intends on marrying the nurse who cared for his late wife in her final days. Since her death, David has taken up his mother's old hobby and spends his time birding with his schoolfriends Timmy and Peter (Alex Wolff and Michael Chen). When David believes he has spotted the Labrador duck - a bird believed extinct for over 100 years - he asks Lawrence Konrad (Kingsley), a local ornithologist, for his opinion. Konrad admits that the bird David has spotted may well be the Labrador duck and advises on possible locations for a repeat sighting. Together with Timmy, Peter and Ellen (Katie Chang), the new girl in town, David sets off to track the bird down.
