Five-disc set of sci-fi films. 'Minority Report' (2002), directed by Steven Spielberg, is an adaptation of the short story by Philip K. Dick ('Blade Runner', 'Total Recall'). Tom Cruise stars as John Anderton, a cop who is being pursued by his own colleagues. Anderton works for the Pre-Crime Division of the Washington DC police force, a special unit which acts on information obtained from mutants with pre-cognitive abilities in order to prevent murders before they have been committed. When the mutants have visions of a murder carried out by Anderton himself, the cop goes on the run and attempts to prove his own future-innocence. But no matter how hard he tries, he cannot stay hidden from the city's advanced surveillance systems for long. 'The Abyss' (1989) is a submarine-set sci-fi thriller directed by James Cameron ('Titanic'). When an unidentified floating object is picked up on the sonar of a US nuclear submarine, the ensuing panic leads to the sub being marooned on the edge of an abyss. Oil rigger Bud Brigman (Ed Harris) leads his team on a rescue mission, aided by engineer Lindsey Brigman (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), Bud's estranged wife. Whilst navy representatives attempt to salvage the 150 nuclear warheads on board, the force that had caused the initial accident begins to make its presence felt. 'Aliens' (1986) is Cameron's sequel to the highly successful 1979 film 'Alien'. Officer Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), the sole survivor of the alien attack on the 'Nostromo', awakes after 57 years in suspended animation when she is picked up by a salvage ship. She is put to work by the Company, but is horrified to discover that the planet where her ship picked up the original alien has now been colonized. When contact with the colony is lost, the Company sends Ripley on an investigative mission with a team of hardened Space Marines. In the classic film 'Planet of the Apes' (1968), a group of astronauts, led by George Taylor (Charlton Heston), crash land on a strange planet where mute humans are treated as slaves by intelligent apes. Taylor is hunted down and captured by horse-riding gorillas, and then taken for experimentation by sympathetic chimpanzee Dr Zira (Kim Hunter). When Zira discovers Taylor's intelligence, she and her fiancé Cornelius (Roddy McDowall) appeal to the governing council on his behalf, but the appeal fails, leaving the astronaut no choice but to go on the run. In 'The Fifth Element' (1996), having established an ancient temple on the planet Earth, the alien Mondoshawan race return in 1914 with four mystic stones, representing the elements, and remove a casket containing the Fifth Element, known as the Supreme Being. In the 23rd century an alien sphere of pure evil threatens the Earth, and priest Cornelius (Ian Holm) prophesies that the Fifth Element is required to defeat it. When an approaching Mondoshowan ship is destroyed, its remnants form into a female humanoid, Leeloo (Milla Jovovich), who is aided by taxi driver Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis). Cornelius realizes that Leeloo is the Fifth Element, and he and Korben set out to reunite her with the other four elements.
