Family film based on the best-selling series of books by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. Alice McKinley (Alyson Stoner) is an eleven-year-old girl who finds her life seriously disrupted when her widowed father Ben (Luke Perry) buys a store and moves her and her older brother Lester (Lucas Grabeel) to a new town. Alice misses her mother dearly and has a rough time adjusting to being the new girl at school, especially after she gets the stern Mrs Plotkin (Penny Marshall) as her new teacher. Feeling shy and isolated, Alice has only her hyperactive imagination to keep her company which sometimes lands her in trouble. But with a little unexpected help from Mrs. Plotkin, Alice learns to grow up and help herself and her father get over their loss.
