Writing and reciting songs became her childhood hobby - it would ultimately become her therapy and escape. Disappointed by her parents' divorce, she began to rebel against authority at school and at home. Her anger eventually spiraled into depression, which led to bulimia and anorexia. However her passion for music was unwavering. She... was inspired by artists such as Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billy Holiday. Appalled by the quality of music on the radio, she was determined to make her own mark. One of her recordings caught the attention of a prominent record executive who vowed to make her a star. Her soulful sound was embraced by fans, and propelled her to the top of the charts. In 2006 she won 5 prestigious Grammy awards, tying the record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night. However her success only fueled her rebellious nature.
