Seventy years after they first entered a recording studio the revival of Anacaona Cuba's first exotic 'son' all-girl orchastra is well underway. With glamorous smiles the girls some of them minors took audiences by surprise with their son rhythms. Their music which for a long time was described as primitive and vulgar by the middle classes because of its African roots delighted the audiences. Anacaona continued to perform in public until 1989 but faded into obscurity after the Cuban Revolution. This DVD 'Ten Sisters of Rhythm' offers a selection of restored... music by Anacaona played between 1937 and 1954 as well as a fascinating documentary told by the women of Anacaona with stories about the varied history of the orchestra and their every day lives through five decades. Now you can enjoy the youthful expressiveness and musical virtuosity of Anacaona. Let the music play on and on and on. Tracklist: 1. Mambo Habanero 2. Hoy 3. Cicuta Tibia 4. Maleficio 5.
