Anna Karenina is Joe Wright's inspiring new adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's epic masterpiece; expertly scripted by much celebrated playwright Sir Tom Stoppard. The film, nominated in 2013 for several coveted awards, stars Keira Knightley, Jude Law and Aaron Taylor-Johnson and is set almost entirely within a run-down theatre.
The story takes place in Russia's extravagant high society during the late 19th century. It follows married aristocrat Anna Karenina as she embarks on a fateful affair with the handsome, dashing young army officer, Count Vronsky, who she... meets while in Moscow attempting to help her brother save his marriage. On returning to St Petersburg Anna is still consumed with desire and the two lovers, unable to ignore their mutual attraction, continue their passionate liaison. Scandal ensues and, challenged with a crucial ultimatum proposed by her husband, Anna's decisions have drastic consequence not only for herself but for those around her.
