The story begins one Christmas Eve in the North Pole during one of Santa's ultra-high tech, mechanistically organised present processing runs designed to deliver the children's Christmas toys in one impeccably streamlined, seamlessly efficient procedure. The whole operation is now managed with military precision by Steve (Santa's eldest son) and Peter (Steve's right hand elf) with Santa himself, well into his old age and soon to retire, taking very much a back seat.
Bryony, one of the elves, discovers that one of the presents, a bicycle for a little girl... named Gwen, has missed the delivery run which troubles Arthur (Santa's rather clumsy younger son) who had been personally responsible for answering her Christmas letter. Concerned at everyone's indifference and refusal to go out of their way just for one present, Arthur takes it upon himself to rectify the error and so prevent the girl's disappointment on Christmas morning.
Eventually he manages to get his whole, somewhat dysfunctional, family to rally round and brings to the forefront the true spirit of Christmas.
This beautifully aminmated family film includes voicovers from James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Bill Nighy, Michael Palin, Robbie Coltrane, Imelda Staunton, Joan Cusack and Jim Broadbent among the star-studded cast.

This animated seasonal family comedy is co-produced by Aardman Studios. The film shows the inner workings of the high-tech operation run at the North Pole by Santa (voiced by Jim Broadbent) and his sons, which enables them to get all the world's presents delivered in just one night. But behind this slick and efficient machine are the disparate and dysfunctional members of Santa's family, including his cranky 136-year-old father, Grandsanta (Bill Nighy), his devoted wife, Mrs Santa (Imelda Staunton), and his poles-apart sons, Steve (Hugh Laurie) and Arthur (James McAvoy).
