Henry Fonda and Robert Shaw star in this historical account of Germany's last major European offensive of the Second World War in December 1944. Germany, under the command of Col. Martin Hessler (Shaw), plan an attack with their secret panzer division in Belgium's Ardennes Forest, but they are desperately short of fuel and their immediate objective is to capture a big Allied fuel deposit, without the Allies knowing. Meanwhile, the Allied forces try to prepare themselves for an anticipated German attack, unaware that they have the requisite resources for such an assault.
