The inside story of the world's greatest ever airborne operation. In June 1948 the Soviet Union blockaded Berlin severing all road rail and canal links with the city. Thus began the Cold War. In the ensuing battle of nerves the allied powers determined to support the city providing much needed supplies of food fuel and clothing via aircraft. Pilots were able to use their experience from recent conflicts enabling them to even land supplies on city centre lakes. At it's height during the airlift an aircraft would land or take off every three minutes.

Rare archive film and interviews with veterans tell the story of one of the greatest airborne operations of modern times. In June 1948, the Soviet Union blockaded Berlin, determined to finally drive the Allies from the city. But instead of backing down, the Americans, British and French embarked on a monumental operation to supply the besieged city entirely by air, flying huge numbers of transport planes into Berlin's airports every three minutes, while the city's lakes were used as landing sites for seaplanes.
