Deuteronomy, the fifth book of the Pentateuch, consists of three sermons delivered by Moses and recounts his death outside the the Promised Land. The book tells of the renewing of the covenant between God and his all too wayward children. One of of its most significant verses is Chapter 6:4, the Shema, the statement of Jewish identity: 'Hear, O Israel: the LORD (is) our God, the LORD is one.'
