Boesman (Danny Glover) and Lena (Angela Bassett) are a bickering homeless couple, surviving as best they can in Apartheid-era South Africa. They have now arrived at a small shelter on the mudflats outside Capetown, where they are joined by an old Xhosa tribesman. Boesman's first instinct is to abuse the visitor, but Lena feels compelled to protect him, and as the couple's arguments get worse, the tension between them gets stronger and stronger.
