Road trip comedy starring Jessica Lange, Joan Allen and Kathy Bates. Recently widowed Arvilla (Lange) has reached a crossroads in her life. Her step-daughter Francine (Christine Baranski) has threatened to sell Arvilla's Idaho home unless Arvilla takes her late husband's ashes to California to be interred for eternity next to those of his first wife. When Arvilla's friends Margene (Bates) and Carol (Allen) convince Arvilla that she must deliver the ashes, Arvilla persuades them both to accompany her in her husband's 1966 Bonneville convertible. The three women embark on a trip full of unexpected twists and turns, which ultimately leads them to let go of the past and re-evaluate their lives.
