Directed by and starring Mel Gibson, Braveheart is a spirited Oscar winning epic that is as emotionally raw as it is bloody.
Braveheart follows the adventures of the thirteenth century freedom fighter William Wallace who led an uprising that united Scottish rebels in a battle to topple Edward the Longshanks, a brutal English ruler who wanted the throne of Scotland for himself.
Despite Longshanks threatening the freedom of the Scottish people, Wallace is not initially interested and is content with his simple life, however, when he loses the woman... he loves at the hands of the English soldiers, he vows to free Scotland once and for all. With a little help from Robert the Bruce, Wallace bravely defends his people, attacks the English and thus creates a legend which is passed down through the ages.
Although it's a massive vanity piece, Braveheart is a fiercely patriotic war movie, with awe inspiring battle scenes and strong performances that will keep you gripped throughout.

Mel Gibson stars on both sides of the camera, playing the lead role plus directing and producing this brawling, richly detailed saga of fierce combat, tender love and the will to risk all that's precious: freedom. In an emotionally charged performance, Gibson is William Wallace, a bold Scotsman who used the steel of his blade and the fire of his intellect to rally his countrymen to liberation.
In 14th century Scotland, the English nobles are staking their claim for lands and the Scottish throne. When William Wallace is left an orphan by the brutality of the English, he vows to make Scotland strong again. Wallace grows up into a paradox of a man - on the one hand very well educated, on the other a ruthless killer and barbarian. As an adult he succeeds in uniting the Scottish clans to fight the English oppressors, and is only undone by betrayal and greed. Mel Gibson directs this multi-Oscar winning epic, and also stars as folk hero Wallace.
