The year had barely begun when Winston Churchill departed his tremendous life. The whole nation - indeed, the whole world - mourned the loss of this man who had so shaped the course of the Twentieth Century. There wasn't only bad news this year, though. The Queen had a successful visit to Africa, Gambia gained its independence, the great Martin Luther King marched for civil rights, and the ever-popular Beatles were showered with honours. 1965 was certainly a year to remember.
