To travel by train around the Peak District is one of the oldest and most enjoyable ways to experience the natural beauty of the great British countryside. The Southern part of the long Pennine backbone is a place known for its accessibility and splendour. Beginning at the Huddersfield line out of Manchester we move into the once industrial heart of Britain through Uppermill Saddleworth and into the Standage Tunnel built in 1849. We travel to historic Holmfirth Hadfield New Mill Edale and Hathersage which was the inspiration for Bronte's Jane Eyre and the burial... place of Robin Hood's Little John. We also enjoy the beauty of places such Buxton with its rich Spa Heritage until finally visiting the National Tramway Museum in Crich. [show more]
