To travel on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway through the very heart of the National Park is one of Britain's finest railway experiences along a line which for more than 150 years has stood tribute to the engineering skills of George Stephenson. This programme takes you first to the coastal town of Whitby with its cliff top Abbey fine beaches and bustling harbour. From there it is on to Grosmont station for a journey along the line. War Department tender locomotive Dame Vera Lynn and No. 80135 are captured in action before joining Lambton Tank No. 5 as she travels... the steep climb to Goathland. Then over open moorland and past the radar golf balls of Fylingdales to descend into the Newtondale Gorge and Cropton Forest. There is more steam action from Class S/5 841 Dame Vera Lynn and 80135 before the end of the line is reached in Pickering. The town with its Norman castle and Museum of Rural History complete the tour.
