Before there was Bond there was BULLSHOT! The dashing Captain Hugh ""Bullshot"" Crummond - WWI ace fighter pilot Olympic athlete racing driver part-time sleuth and all round spiffing chap - must save the world from the dastardly Count Otto van Bruno his wartime adversary. And of course win the heart of a jolly nice young lady. ...a terribly British comedy
This is an absolutely wonderful film; a spoof on Bulldog Drummond, the quintessential British hero who existed long before James Bond. The plot is crazy and involves a mad professor and his hopelessly inept daughter; a secret formula; German spies (one being the notorious Red Baron; an air ace who has crossed Bullshot in the past) and so on. Billy Connolly as the blindman who volunteers to be 'lookout' is hilarious and Shearman plays Bullshot Crummond wonderfully. The whole cast overact and ham up the plot so beautifully that, if you're on the right wavelength, you'll laugh till you cry.
