Jonathan (Jack Nicholson) and Sandy (Art Garfunkel) find their sexual attitudes and aptitudes changing as they move through life from college to middle age. When they share a room as students, Jonathan gives Sandy tips on women, only to conduct an affair with Sandy's girlfriend Susan (Candice Bergen) behind his back.
