Christopher And His Kind DVD

| DVD

The hedonistic Berlin cabaret scene is in full swing when a young and wide-eyed Christopher Isherwood arrives in the city unable to speak a word of German to stay with his close friend Auden. To Isherwood's reserved English sensibility the city's thriving gay subculture is thrilling and intoxicating. But Christopher soon finds himself heartbroken after the failure of a hopeless love affair and so sets out on a process of self-discovery. Christopher And His Kind is written by acclaimed playwright Kevin Elyot.

Matt Smith (DOCTOR WHO) stars as English-born writer Christopher Isherwood, in this BBC dramatization of the novelist's early years spent in hedonistic 1930's Berlin. The city's thriving gay scene proved to be momentous in both Isherwood's personal and professional life; during this time he met Jean Ross, the eventual inspiration for CABARET character Sally Bowles (Imogen Poots, BOUQUET OF BARBED WIRE), and fell madly in love with a young street cleaner named Heinz (Douglas Booth, WORRIED ABOUT THE BOY). The journey of self-discovery was a world away from the repressive values of his mother (Sally Duncan, ROME) in England, and --as chronicled in this lavish drama-- the intoxicatingly decadent German subculture was irresistible to the blossoming literary legend. Superbly acted, with dazzling period detail, CHRISTOPHER AND HIS KIND is written by acclaimed playwright Kevin Elyot.

BBC drama based on the life of writer Christopher Isherwood (Matt Smith). Feeling suppressed by the restrictive society of 1930s England, Christopher moves to Germany so he can experience Berlin's gay subculture. He meets and falls in love with German street cleaner Heinz (Douglas Booth), but the outbreak of World War Two brings chaos into their lives, and soon Christopher has to fight to protect Heinz from the Nazis.
