A collection of four classic Clint Eastwood films. In 'High Plains Drifter' (1973) the unwelcome arrival of a stranger (Eastwood) in the town of Lagos causes resentment and fear among the locals. However, when they come under threat from a band of escaped convicts, it is to the stranger that the townsfolk turn for salvation. He agrees to help, and sets about teaching the populace the arts of self defence. In 'Joe Kidd' (1972) Eastwood plays a drunken tracker coerced by American business tycoon Frank Harlan (Robert Duvall) to go in search of Mexican agitator Luis Chama (John Saxon). The film is scripted by renowned crime writer Elmore Leonard. In 'Coogan's Bluff' (1968) Arizona deputy Walt Coogan (Eastwood) is sent to New York city to escort a prisoner home but the prisoner is not ready to be transferred back to Arizona and so Coogan cuts a few corners. However, this helps the prisoner escape and, after he clashes with Lieutenant McElroy (Lee J. Cobb), Coogan is ordered back to Arizona. Coogan is unwilling to give up his pursuit of the prisoner, however, and takes the matter into his own hands. Finally, in 'Play Misty for Me' (1971) Dave Garland (Eastwood) is a Californian DJ who runs a late night call-in show, and receives regular requests from a female caller for Erroll Garner's 'Misty'. Following a bust-up with his regular girlfriend, Tobie (Donna Mills), Dave has a one-night stand with Evelyn Draper (Jessica Walter) after meeting her at his regular night spot. It transpires that Evelyn is the mystery caller on Dave's show, but after their night together she becomes obsessed with him, refusing to accept his subsequent rapprochement with Tobie. Evelyn's rage at first takes a suicidal turn, then becomes murderous as she makes violent threats towards Dave and Tobie.
