Documentary overview of the life and background of Daniel Defoe (1660-1731). Born in Cripplegate, London, Defoe, the son of a religious dissenter, was sent to a Dissenter's academy where he received a formal education before going on to work as both a journalist and a secret agent for the government. Many of his works of fiction were published in his later years.
