All eight episodes of the German TV drama set during the height of the Cold War. In a paranoid and divided Germany in 1983, 24-year-old East German border patrol guard Martin Rauch (Jonas Nay) is recruited by the East Germany Secret Service to go undercover as a West German soldier. In his role as an oberleutnant, Martin assumes the identity of Moritz Stamm and, while serving under Major General Wolfgang Edel (Ulrich Noethen), gathers intelligence on the West's military activities and culture.
