Musical set during the US Civil War starring Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. The film, based on the life of Daniel Decatur Emmett, who wrote the song 'Dixie', opens with Emmett (Crosby) trying to make his way as a singer-songwriter in New Orleans. He teams up with accordion player Mr Bones (Billy de Wolfe) and the pair make their way to New York. When a music publisher begins showing an interest in Emmett's songs stardom appears to beckon, but does it do so at a price?
