Duets is a road-trip comedy about six individuals who throw off the binds of their pre-determined lives and strive to fulfil their dreams. They are: a waitress (Maria Bello) from West Virginia desperate to become a recording star, an ex-con (Andre Braugher) who sings with the voice of an angel, a salesman (Paul Giamatti) who suffers a nervous breakdown while chasing the American Dream, a seasoned Karaoke hustler (Huey Lewis) who is disconnected from everybody and everything, an innocent Vegas showgirl (Gwyneth Paltrow) searching for family and love, and a young down-on-his-luck cab driver. As they converge on the $5,000 Grand Prize Karaoke Contest in Omaha, Nebraska, their lives intertwine, revealing the funny, raucous world of Karaoke bars and chain hotels that link interstates of America. Featuring a superb soundtrack including the hit Cruisin' by Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis.
Six unlikely characters head towards a karaoke contest in Oklahoma, Nebraska. Waitress and would-be-singer Suzy Loomis (Maria Bello) travels with cuckholded cab driver Billy Hannon (Scott Speedman); ex-jailbird Reggie Kane (André Braugher) gets a lift from Todd Woods (Paul Giamatti), a businessman suffering from a mid-life crisis; and professional karaoke hustler Ricky Dean (Huey Lewis) makes the journey with his long-lost daughter, Las Vegas showgirl Liv (Gwyneth Paltrow). The winner of the contest could walk away with $5000, but what matters is that they have all been changed by the journey. Directed and produced by Gwyneth's father, Bruce Paltrow.
