A HISTORY OF MOTOR RACING brings you the story of the names that were to change the direction of the Grand Prix and Sports Car racing history - the cars the drivers the characters the big race glory and the tragedy. No history of Motor racing would be complete without an in depth look at the formative years of this motor racing powerhouse. The ERA or English Racing Automobiles first appeared in 1934 and still have a major influence on motor racing today. Although ERA's were filling up the grids the Italian development of the Maserati and Alfa Romeo teams as well as the the might of the German cars including Auto Union and Mercedes Benz threatened their dominance. The post war years saw the company sold to a new owner and some real problems with engines failing to complete races until the arrival of Stirling Moss. In 1984 ERA celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special race featuring 16 of the original 17 cars that were manufactured and have since launched the RD4 the fastest car ERA ever built. [show more]
