An audience award winner at Rottedam film festival Michael Hoffman's Eden is a sensual and romantic film about the art of cooking and love. Gregor (Josef Ostendorf) an eccentric chef runs a small restaurant on the outskirts of town. In his spare time he often sits by a street cafe where he is served by Eden (Charlotte Roche). Eden is married to Xaver (Devid Striesow) and has a young daughter Leonie (Leonie Streep) who has Down Syndrome. Gregor is charmed by both Leonie and her mother and decides to bake a cake with his own homemade chocolate for Eden's birthday.... When Eden tastes the chocolate she is hooked and visits Gregor's kitchen to taste some more of his cuisine which leads to a close but platonic relationship. Eden and her marraige flourish and she finally becomes pregnant again. But Xaver is jealous of Gregor leading to confrontation Gregor decides to leave town but first he wants to see Eden one last time. He develops a fondness for the waitress, Eden (Charlotte Roche) and her young daughter, Leonie (Leonie Stepp), who has Down's Syndrome. After Gregor makes a birthday cake for Eden, using his own homemade chocolate, Eden starts to visit him at his restaurant to sample more of his cuisine and a close, platonic relationship grows between them. But as Eden's marriage to Xaver (Devid Streisow) flourishes and she becomes pregnant Xaver starts to grow jealous of Gregor, which leads to a confrontation between them. Gregor decides to leave town but not before trying to see Eden one last time.
A chance encounter brings together Gregor—-an eccentric chef—-and Eden, a married waitress struggling to rear her Down Syndrome-afflicted daughter, Leonie. Gregor is charmed by Eden and her plight and decides to bake a birthday cake for her, using his own, homemade chocolate. Within no time, the pair soon become friends, embroiled in a beautiful yet platonic relationship, much to the chagrin of Eden's jealous husband, Xaver, who decides to confront Gregor.
