Helena Bonham Carter stars in this feature-length BBC biopic as children's author Enid Blyton. An astoundingly prolific writer revered by an adoring readership, Blyton was, in her personal life, a self-absorbed, ruthlessly ambitious woman who manipulated those close to her for her own advantage. After driving her first husband, publisher Major Hugh Pollock (Matthew MacFadyen) to drink and into the arms of another woman, Enid uses their two daughters, Gillian and Imogen (Sinead Michael and Ramona Marquez) as bargaining chips to get a divorce on her terms before marrying her lover, Doctor Kenneth Waters (Denis Lawson). Despite her image as a children's champion, Blyton willfully neglects her own children and packs them off to boarding school when they dare to challenge her.
