Thriller in which a chance conversation on a train leads a man into family intrigue and peril. Dr Bailey (George Brent) shares an interesting train journey with an elderly woman, Cissie Bederaux (Olive Blakeney), who tells him at length about her brother, Nick (Paul Lukas), and his young wife, Allida (Hedy Lamarr). When Bailey hears about Cissie's death shortly afterwards he becomes intrigued and goes to meet her family. Through his fascination with the beautiful but fragile Allida, Bailey finds himself drawn into the turmoil of the family and soon finds his life at risk.
