A History Of Motor Racing brings you the story of the names that were to change the direction of the Grand Prix and Sports Car racing history - the cars the drivers the characters the big race glory and the tragedy. Henry Ford II had wanted a Ford at Le Mans since he took the realms of the company and more so when Ferrari unilaterally cut off talks at a late stage of Ford's take over of the company in 1963. Henry Ford II directed his racing division to build a Ferrari-beater on the world endurance-racing circuit and thus one of motor racing's greatest cars was developed.... The car was named the GT (for Grand Tourisme) with the 40 representing its overall height of 40 inches (1.02 m measured at the windshield) as required by the rules. Large displacement Ford V8 engines (4.7 L and 7 L) were used compared with the Ferrari V12 which displaced 3.0 L or 4.0 L. The unique story of the GT40 is revealed with archive footage and illuminating insights from Carol Shelby John Wyer Dan Gurney Henry Lennox Sterling Moss and Brian Redman as well as its 20th Anniversary at Watkins Glenn and the development of the Mark 4.
