Big budget Chinese historical epic examining the climax of the Chinese Civil War in the 1950s. The film opens with the leaders of the two main factions in the civil war, Mao Zedong (Tang Guoqiang) of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Chiang Kai-shek (Zhang Guoli) of the nationalist party Kuomintang (KMT), agreeing to call a truce.
