Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) is an irresistible British romantic comedy directed by Mike Newell, written by Richard Curtis and starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell. It is a light, subtly funny and inspiring look at uncertain love and the joy of friendship.
The film follows Bachelor Charles (Grant), a charming but accident-prone Englishman with a colourful romantic past. His spare time seems entirely devoted to attending weddings with his close group of friends, who all wonder if they will ever find love and marry.
At one particular countryside... wedding, Charles meets a beautiful American named Carrie (MacDowell) who captures his attention. He thinks he's found "the one", the perfect woman, so awkwardly tries to woo her through one funeral and three more weddings, however the timing is lousy as last wedding just happens to be her own.
At the time of its release, Four Weddings and a Funeral was the highest-grossing British film in history, it blasted Hugh Grant into stardom and received an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
