Three French dramas starring Emmanuelle Beart. In 'La Belle Noiseuse' (1991), young artist Nicolas (David Bursztein) and his writer mistress Marianne (Beart) meet famous painter Frenhofer (Michel Piccoli), who is persuaded to start work again on a long abandoned picture for which Marianne agrees to model. As a relationship blossoms between the tyrannical genius and his young muse, tensions develop between the young couple and Frenhofer and his wife. Jacques Rivette directs 'Histoire de Marie et Julien' (2003), which follows 40-something loner Julien (Jerzy Radziwilowicz) and his mysterious ex-lover Marie (Beart) as they slowly rekindle their relationship after a year apart and a complex history together. Julien, who is blackmailing the rich and enigmatic fake antique dealer Madame X (Anne Brochet), becomes increasingly unsettled by Marie's strange and distant behaviour. It transpires that only Madame X holds the key to unlock Marie's terrible and devastating secret. 'The Witnesses' (2007) follows a group of friends and lovers in 1980s France. When handsome young Manu (Johan Liberau) arrives in Paris to stay with his sister, he befriends 50-something Adrien (Michel Blanc), who in turn introduces Manu to his friends Sarah (Beart) and her partner Mehdi (Sami Bouajila). Mehdi and Manu unexpectedly find themselves drawn to each other, resulting in a passionate affair that has lasting repurcussions for all the friends.
