In the dark days of the 16th century a series of brutal and gruesome murders shocks a small village. Period thriller set in 16th century Spain during the Inquisition. When a series of viciously murdered noblemen are discovered with large letters carved into their chests, Sheriff Ruy de Mendoza (Christopher Lambert) is sent to investigate the case. However, the victims' bodies mysteriously disappear before he gets a chance to identify them. And worse still, the crime scenes have been wiped clean. As further corpses are discovered, Ruy becomes more and more determined in his investigation, becoming deeper immersed in the case. But as he gets closer to solving the mystery he finds himself in danger of becoming the killer's next victim.
