Sam and Molly are deeply in love. One night when walking home from the theatre they have a run-in with a thief and shots are fired. Desperate to check that Molly is ok, he runs back to her, but finds he is already dead and lying in her arms.
Sam is stuck between worlds as a ghost and realises that his death was no accident and that Molly's life is in danger too. He must warn Molly, but as a ghost he can't communicate with her. Instead he hilariously... stalks Oda Mae Brown, a supposedly phoney psychic, until she agrees to help him. But can they get Molly to believe what she says, before it's too late?

Romantic thriller in which murdered yuppie banker Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) returns to Earth as a ghost to solve his own murder and protect his grief-stricken wife Molly (Demi Moore). As he cannot communicate directly with his wife, he turns to fake medium Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) for help. After renovating their expensive loft in the TriBeCa section of Manhattan, Molly and Sam, a young successful yuppie couple, are walking home one evening when Sam is tragically gunned down by a street mugger. Molly goes into a deep depression, but, unknown to her, Sam has come back as a ghost in order to protect her from danger--although he isn't yet aware who or what means her harm, and he has a lot of learning to do in order to make himself known to her.
