In a career that spanned seven decades Glenn Ford established a reputation as a versatile actor at his best when playing either cowboys or ordinary men in extraordinary situations. Here are two of his best performances; as David Stannard in the psychological thriller Ransom (later remade with Mel Gibson in the same role) and The Green Glove an action adventure film set in post-war France. Ransom: David and Edith Stannard's son Andy is kidnapped from his school by a nurse claiming that he is needed immediately by the family doctor. The ransom note delivered to the parents... is upsetting enough but when David Stannard realises that his son won't be returned regardless of whether he pays the ransom or not he takes drastic action putting a ransom on the heads of the kidnappers! The Green Glove: During the Second World War American soldier Mike Blake captures and then loses a Nazi collaborator and art thief. Years later financial circumstances dictate that Blake return to France to try and find the Green Glove a religious artifact dropped by the art thief. [show more]
