Crime thriller following a man's attempts to cover up the murder of his wife. With one of his horses having just won the Grand National, Gerald Coates (Nigel Patrick) should be enjoying one of the greatest days of his life. Unfortunately, his temperamental and alcoholic wife, Babs (Moira Lister), comes home in a state and the pair have a furious argument that degenerates into a violent struggle. Babs is killed in the tussle and, though her death was accidental, Gerald panics and attempts to distance himself from the crime. Will he be able to evade the attentions of the police?
