Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount)'s quest takes him to a settlement town known as Hell On Wheels, which is used as a base for the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad. Following the harsh 1868 winter in Cheyenne, Wyoming work on the railroad is brought to a standstill causing many of the disgruntled workers to cause chaos in the town. Meanhwile, Cullen is forced to adjust to life as a married man with his pregnant wife Naomi (Mackenzie Porter).
