In the early morning of 7th December 1941 Japanese submarines and planes attacked the US Pacifi c fl eet stationed at Pearl Harbour Oahu Hawaii. The attack was one of the most signifi cant events of the war as it marked the entrance of Japan into World War II on the side of Germany and the might of the US joining forces with the Allies The surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour followed shortly by co-ordinated attacks against the British and American positions at Hong Kong Malaya and the Philippines heralded the outbreak of war in the Pacifi c.
