Paul Newman stars in this adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel about a cowboy who has been raised by Apache Indians. John 'Hombre' Russell (Newman) lives on an Indian reservation where he tends his cattle and is quite content with his life. When he receives word that he has inherited a house in town, he manages to secure a seat on a stagecoach to take him there. When the coach is attacked by bandits however, it is left to Hombre to lead his fellow passengers to safety.
