This CBBC series is designed to encourage children to focus on some of the key events that occurred throughout British and World history.
By ingeniously capturing the imaginations of their target audience, presenting the subject matter in a form they are bound to enjoy, embellishing the gruesome, grisly facts that children love to hear and all at a rate so fast-paced it couldn't possibly leave them bored, the makers of this series have gone down in history themselves. It has attracted many millions of viewers including those from outside the 6-12 year old... age range it was originally intended for.
The series is based on Terry Deary's best-selling books (illustrated by Martin Brown) and has been seen on TV from 2009-2012. Topics include the Savage Stone Age, the Rotten Romans, Vicious Vikings, Measly Middle Ages and more, finally culminating in the twentieth century with the Woeful Second World War. The format of each show includes commentary from Rattus Rattus (the rat! - host of the series) and sketches played out from each of the featured periods of history, plus spoofs, cartoons and quizzes.
