After trying and failing to be herself, she moves away and assumes a new identity as white girl Lila Brownell. On the plane to New York City, she meets her perfect man, Rick Leyton (James Franciscus), and consequently they get married and start a new life. However, things turn complicated when Bernice falls pregnant, and she becomes increasingly anxious that the imminent birth of her child could give her secret away.
