Musical set in the Prohibition-era American South. Young bootlegger Rooster (Antwan A. Patton) and undertaker's son Percival (André Benjamin) are best friends from childhood, but their adult lives have become woefully complex: Rooster's wife despises his life at the nightclub Church, Percival is stuck taking care of his depressed father, and an ambitious gangster (Terrence Howard) kills Rooster's mentor to take over the gangster's bootlegging operation. The arrival of high-handed cabaret singer Angel Davenport (Paula Patton) may help Rooster save Church, but when she and Percival fall in love, their troubles only multiply.
