Romantic triple. In 'It Could Happen To You' (1994), Charlie Lang (Nicolas Cage) is an honest but poor cop who becomes an instant celebrity when he wins the lottery, and gives half of it to Yvonne (Bridget Fonda), a waitress to whom he had promised a share of the fortune should his number come up that day. This beneficent act is not appreciated by Lang's avaricious wife, Muriel (Rosie Perez), who becomes increasingly estranged from her husband as her new-found riches lead her to ever dizzier social heights. Meanwhile, the more selfless Charlie and Yvonne find themselves being drawn closer and closer together. In 'My Best Friend's Wedding' (1997), Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) has just realised that she is in love with her best friend Michael O'Neal (Dermot Mulroney), but there's a problem: Michael has recently announced his up-coming marriage to the hare-brained Kimmy (Cameron Diaz). Enlisting the help of her gay friend George Downes (Rupert Everett), Julianne resolves to sabotage Michael's big day and win him back for herself. But when Kimmy turns out to be such a kind and likeable person, Julianne wonders if she's doing the right thing after all. In 'Sleepless in Seattle'' (1993), Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) has lost his wife to cancer and, left to bring up his son alone, tries to make a new start by moving to Seattle. His son turns him into a radio heartthrob, however, when he makes an on-air appeal to potential partners for his grief-stricken father. Annie Reed (Meg Ryan), despite being happily betrothed, answers the call, and romance blossoms between the two people, despite the fact that they live on different sides of the country.
