For more than fifty years Jacques Cousteau explored the earth and its water system. Since 1943 when he and Emile Gagnan developed the first regulated compressed-air breathing device for deep sea diving (the Aqualung) until his death in 1997 Captain Cousteau was a leading spokesman for the protection of the underwater world and the global environment. Born in France in 1910 Cousteau served in the French navy from 1930 until 1957 before resigning to become director of the Muse Ocanographique of Monaco a post which he held until 1988. This episode follows the crew... on a breathtaking trip down earth's longest river and reveals its fabled past and complex challenging present. [show more]
