Erick Zonca directs this indie thriller set in California and Mexico. Tilda Swinton stars as Julia, a middle-aged alcoholic woman living in Los Angeles who lurches her way from one crisis to another as she tries desperately to straighten out her wreck of a life. When Julia meets Elena (Kate del Castillo), a young Mexican mother, at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and discovers she plans to kidnap her estranged nine-year-old son from his millionaire grandfather, Julia comes up with a plan to abduct the child herself and extort Elena's inherited fortune from her. But her plans soon spiral violently out of control as her actions are increasingly dictated by her own drunkenness, desperation and despair.
