The directorial debut of British filmmaker Peter Strickland, this Romanian-language drama is based on a traditional Transylvanian ballad. Hilda Peter stars in the title role as a young woman who takes matters into her own hands after being mercilessly cast out of her home by her husband when he discovers that he is not the father of ten-year-old Orban (Norbert Tanko). Taking her son along with her, Katalin strikes out across the treacherous Carpathian mountains in a wagon, intent on tracking down and confronting the men whose actions have blighted her life.
