Sci-fi thriller triple. Nicolas Cage stars in 'Knowing' (2009) as John Koestler, a teacher who opens a time capsule that has been unearthed in the grounds of his son's school. The capsule contains chilling predictions, some of which have already occurred, and other still worse prophecies that have yet to happen. With the reluctant help of Diana and Abby Whelan (Rose Byrne and Lara Robinson), the daughter and granddaughter of the now-deceased writer of the predictions, Koestler sets out on a race against time to solve the riddles and do what he can to avert destruction on a global scale. 'District 9' (2009), based on the short film 'Alive in Jo'berg' (2005), focuses on the tense relationship that exisits between a group of aliens who have been living on earth for 30 years and the humans who have been trying to keep them segregated and under their control. The aliens live in a place called District 9 in South Africa in squalid conditions and are now under the supervision of Multi-National United (MNU), a company who are solely interested in exploiting the aliens' superior technology to make money. However, the only way of getting the extra-terrestrial technology to work is by using alien DNA, so when MNU worker Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) becomes infected with a DNA altering disease, giving him alien DNA, he becomes a very desirable commodity. Realising he is alone and in serious danger, and as relations between the aliens and humans intensify, van der Merwe must enter District 9 to escape. Duncan Jones, who won the 2010 BAFTA for Most Promising Newcomer, writes and directs the critically-acclaimed space isolation drama 'Moon' (2009). Sam Rockwell stars as Sam Bell, a worker for Lunar Industries who is nearing the end of a three-year contract to mine the moon's surface for the precious gas Helium 3, the solution to Earth's energy crisis. As he approaches his return to Earth, Sam reflects on the lessons he has learned during his prolonged isolation and looks forward to his reunion with his wife and young daughter. But a fortnight before his departure he starts seeing and hearing strange things that lead him to suspect that his employers intend to replace him in a far more sinister way than he imagined. Kevin Spacey provides the voice for Sam's only companion, a small robot called Gerty.
